Humidity Control Monitor Operating Instructions

TDI's Nitro-Save Humidity Control Monitor for Desiccators

TDI has developed an economic, solid state system that accurately controls humidity and reduces nitrogen consumption.  Competitive brands offer expensive moisture control systems that are dependent on electro mechanical switches to control moisture flow.  These systems are subject to maintenance with repair/replacement in the long run with compromised reliability.  The #HM40 Nitro-Save® Humidity Control Monitor accuracy is  ± 2۬% RH at 20-80% RH and ± 5% at less than 20% RH.

The Nitro-SaveŽ includes a solenoid control valve and internal sensor system to regulate the nitrogen flow in response to the high humidity set point.  Whenever the humidity rises 2% above the set point the control valve will turn on.  Once the humidity decreases 2% below the set point, the control valve will turn off.  Each time the control valve turns on, the monitor will begin a 2 hour timer.  If at the end of 2 hours the humidity has not reached 2% below the set point, the High Humidity Alarm will sound.  Under normal operating conditions the alarm at the end of the 2 hour cycle will indicate a problem such as a lack of nitrogen flowrate or the glovebox door remained open.

The High Humidity Set Point has already been programmed to 20% RH, which represents general electronics requirements.  The RH % settings can be increased for less critical humidity control or decreased for more critical humidity control.

To maintain low moisture conditions in TDI Gloveboxes, a constant dry nitrogen gas supply is required, connected to the nitrogen flowmeter on the glovebox.  The flowmeter regulates the nitrogen gas flow (cu/ft/hr) to the glovebox chamber.

In cases where the Nitro-Save is running when the door is open, a positive pressure of Nitrogen flow extends throughout the glovebox and exits through the open compartment.  This precludes any higher humidity room air back fill into the glovebox.

The glovebox and room atmospheric pressures are similar when the Nitro-Save has achieved pre-set RH% settings and is in the off position.  When the door is opened, air movement between the glovebox chamber and the room is slight during the brief timeframe of exposure with minimal RH% level increase in the glovebox.  Cleanrooms generally operate in a 45/55% RH range and this would represent the highest increase condition possible inside an open glovebox.
